Among the following cities, which one lies on a longitude closest to that of Delhi?

Answer & explanation

Answer: (a) Bengaluru

Bengaluru lies at about 77.6 degrees east, only about 0.4 degrees from Delhi at 77.2 degrees east, so it is the closest in longitude. Hyderabad, Nagpur and Pune lie further east or west of that line.

  • ✓ (a) Delhi is at 77.20 E and Bengaluru at 77.58 E, a gap of about 0.4 degrees. Bengaluru is almost directly south of Delhi.
  • ✗ (b) Hyderabad is at 78.47 E, about 1.3 degrees east of Delhi.
  • ✗ (c) Nagpur is at 79.12 E, about 1.9 degrees east of Delhi.
  • ✗ (d) Pune is at 73.85 E, about 3.4 degrees west of Delhi, the farthest of the four.

Remember · Delhi (77.2 E) and Bengaluru (77.6 E) are almost on the same meridian; Pune (73.9 E) is well to the west.
