Consider the following rivers:
- 1.Barak
- 2.Lohit
- 3.Subansiri
Which of the above flows/flow through Arunachal Pradesh?
Answer & explanation
Answer: (b) 2 and 3 only
The Lohit and the Subansiri both flow through Arunachal Pradesh and belong to the Brahmaputra system. The Barak rises in the Manipur hills, runs along the Nagaland–Manipur border and enters Assam. It never enters Arunachal Pradesh.
- ✗ 1. The Barak rises in the Manipur hills, south of Mao in Senapati district of Manipur. It flows along the Nagaland–Manipur border and enters Assam, then continues into Bangladesh. Its course does not touch Arunachal Pradesh.
- ✓ 2. The Lohit flows through Arunachal Pradesh. Together with the Dibang, it joins the Siang about 30 km downstream of Pasighat to form the Brahmaputra.
- ✓ 3. The Subansiri rises in Tibet. About 192 km of its course lies in Arunachal Pradesh and about 190 km in Assam, where it joins the Brahmaputra.
Remember · The Barak belongs to Manipur–Assam, not Arunachal. The Lohit, Dibang and Siang all flow in Arunachal Pradesh, and the Subansiri crosses Arunachal before entering Assam.
