Which one of the following is the largest Committee of the Parliament?

Answer & explanation

Answer: (b) The Committee on Estimates

The Committee on Estimates has 30 members, all from Lok Sabha. That is more than the Public Accounts Committee (22), the Committee on Public Undertakings (22) and the Lok Sabha Committee on Petitions (15).

  • ✗ (a) The Committee on Public Accounts has 22 members: 15 from Lok Sabha and 7 from Rajya Sabha. That is fewer than 30.
  • ✓ (b) The Committee on Estimates has 30 members, all elected every year by Lok Sabha. Rajya Sabha has no representation on it. It is the largest of the committees listed.
  • ✗ (c) The Committee on Public Undertakings has 22 members: 15 elected by Lok Sabha and 7 by Rajya Sabha. It is the same size as the Public Accounts Committee.
  • ✗ (d) The Lok Sabha Committee on Petitions has 15 members, nominated by the Speaker. It is the smallest of the four.

Remember · Estimates Committee: 30 members, all from Lok Sabha, the largest of the financial committees. Public Accounts and Public Undertakings: 22 each (15 LS + 7 RS). Petitions (Lok Sabha): 15.
