The Hallisalasya painting in the Bagh Caves represents:

(a) A joyous folk dance · (b) Buddha in a meditative pose · (c) The depiction of Shiva and Parvati on Kailasha · (d) Samudramanthan (Churning of the Ocean)

उत्तर और व्याख्या · explanation in English

Answer: (a) एक आनंदमय लोकनृत्य

Hallisa (hallisaka) is the old Sanskrit name for a circular dance performed by women under the direction of a man. The Bagh paintings, whose richest decoration NCERT places in Cave 4 (the Rang Mahal), include a lively group of women around a central dancing figure with musicians, a secular scene of celebration rather than a religious icon.

  • ✓ (a) The Bagh survey of 1927 describes women standing around a central figure who dances, with musicians playing a hand-drum, wooden sticks and cymbals: a festive folk dance.
  • ✗ (b) Bagh's caves are Buddhist viharas, which makes this option tempting, but the Hallisalasya panel is a dance scene, not an image of the Buddha.
  • ✗ (c) Shiva and Parvati on Kailasha is a theme of Brahmanical sculpture, not of the Bagh dance panel.

Remember · Bagh Caves (Dhar, Madhya Pradesh): Buddhist viharas; Cave 4 is the Rang Mahal; its dance panel (Hallisaka) shows women around a central figure with musicians.

Which of the following is/are the most significant implication(s) of obtaining Oeko-Tex certification for Eri Silk in the global textile industry?

1. It allows Indian exporters to compete in high-end markets that prioritise chemical-free products.

2. It confirms that Eri Silk meets international safety, environmental, and quality standards, enabling its entry into premium eco-conscious markets.

Select the answer using the code given below:

(a) 1 only · (b) 2 only · (c) Both 1 and 2 · (d) Neither 1 nor 2

उत्तर और व्याख्या · explanation in English

Answer: (c) 1 और 2 दोनों

The Oeko-Tex certification is an international standard under which textiles are tested for harmful substances and produced in environment-friendly conditions. Its award to Eri silk, the 'peace silk' of the North-East, helps it reach premium, eco-conscious export markets. Both statements describe that effect.

  • ✓ 1. PIB calls the certification a pivotal step in bringing Eri Silk closer to the global export market, which is how Indian exporters reach buyers who want textiles tested for harmful substances.
  • ✓ 2. The Oeko-Tex standard ensures textiles are tested for harmful substances and produced in environment-friendly conditions, so PIB calls it a significant endorsement that positions Eri Silk as a globally recognised, sustainable textile.

Remember · Eri (Endi) silk: multivoltine silk of open-ended cocoons, mainly in Assam and the North-East; Oeko-Tex = tested for harmful substances, eco-friendly production. NEHHDC obtained it in August 2024.
