Raju has ₹ 9000 with him and he wants to buy a mobile handset; but he finds that he has only 75% of the amount required to buy the handset. Therefore, he borrows ₹ 2000 from a friend. Then
Answer & explanation
Answer: (a) Raju still does not have enough amount to buy the handset.
The handset costs ₹12,000 because ₹9,000 is only three-quarters of the price. With the ₹2,000 loan Raju has ₹11,000, still ₹1,000 short.
- ₹9000 is 75% of the price, so the price = 9000 × 100/75 = ₹12000.
- After borrowing he has 9000 + 2000 = ₹11000.
- 11000 < 12000: he is still ₹1000 short.
Remember · Find the base first (amount ÷ percentage), then compare; don't mix percentages with rupee amounts.
