Passage—2

Climate adaptation may be rendered ineffective if policies are not designed in the context of other development concerns. Some of these measures may have to do with climate changes and others with economic development.

Reading comprehension Easy

What is the most logical and rational inference that can be made from the above passage?

Answer & explanation

Answer: (d) Climate adaptation should be examined in tandem with other economic development options

The passage says adaptation may fail if policies ignore other development concerns, and its food security example mixes climate measures with economic development measures. So climate adaptation must be planned together with other development options.

  • ✗ (a) Developing countries are not singled out, and difficulty is not the point.
  • ✗ (b) The passage never compares how complex food security and adaptation are.
  • ✗ (c) 'Every developmental activity' is too sweeping; only 'some of these measures' concern climate.
  • ✓ (d) Adaptation 'may be rendered ineffective if policies are not designed in the context of other development concerns'.

Remember · The opening sentence often states the thesis and the example supports it; pick the option that restates the thesis.
