Passage

Sport is not just about winning medals or getting jobs through a sports quota. Today’s generation is struggling with issues like depression and anxiety. Parents often say that their children are inactive and rarely leave the house. Sport can help tackle these problems. From sport you can learn time management, fitness, teamwork, coordination, and so much more. We need to develop a culture in which sport is seen as a way of life—a path to building a healthier, happier society.

Answer & explanation

Answer: (d) 1, 2 and 3

The passage treats sport as a way of life, says it can help children who are inactive and rarely leave the house, and takes sports-quota jobs as a given benefit. Statement 4 contradicts the skills it lists — time management, teamwork, coordination.

  • ✓ 1. The passage opens with 'Sport is not just about winning medals…' and ends by calling for sport to be seen 'as a way of life'.
  • ✓ 2. Children who are 'inactive and rarely leave the house' are described, and 'Sport can help tackle these problems.'
  • ✓ 3. 'getting jobs through a sports quota' is mentioned as one of the things sport already brings; the passage only adds that sport is more than that.
  • ✗ 4. The passage lists time management, teamwork and coordination as things learnt from sport — the opposite of this statement.

Remember · A statement that denies something the passage lists as a benefit is invalid, however plausible it sounds.
