  1. 1.Bangladesh
  2. 2.Cambodia
  3. 3.China
  4. 4.Myanmar
  5. 5.Thailand

Select the correct answer using the code given below.

Answer & explanation

Answer: (c) 1 and 3

The answer is (c). The Mekong-Ganga Cooperation has six members: India, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Bangladesh and China are not among them, so the non-participants are items 1 and 3.

  • ✓ 1. Bangladesh is not one of the six MGC countries, which are India plus Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. So it is a non-participant.
  • ✗ 2. Cambodia is one of the five ASEAN members of the MGC, so it is a participant.
  • ✓ 3. China is not an MGC member, even though the Mekong flows through it. The MGC is made up of India and five ASEAN countries only, so China is a non-participant.
  • ✗ 4. Myanmar is one of the five ASEAN members of the MGC, so it is a participant.
  • ✗ 5. Thailand is one of the five ASEAN members of the MGC, so it is a participant.

Remember · MGC (2000, Vientiane): India plus Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Neither China nor Bangladesh is a member, though the Mekong passes through China.
