The Government of India has established NITI Aayog to replace the

Answer & explanation

Answer: (d) Planning Commission

NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) was set up on 1 January 2015 and replaced the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission had been created by a Cabinet Resolution in 1950 to draw up Five Year Plans.

  • ✓ (d) The Planning Commission, set up on 15 March 1950 by Cabinet Resolution, was replaced by NITI Aayog, which acts as the Government's policy 'think tank'.
  • ✗ (b) The Finance Commission is a constitutional body under Article 280. It is appointed every five years to recommend how taxes are shared between the Centre and the States. It continues to exist.
  • ✗ (a) The National Human Rights Commission is a statutory body under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. It was not affected by NITI Aayog.
  • ✗ (c) The Law Commission is an advisory body on legal reform. It has no connection with economic planning, and NITI Aayog did not replace it.

Remember · NITI Aayog came into being on 1 January 2015 by Cabinet resolution, replacing the Planning Commission (set up 1950). It is a policy think tank and has no power to allocate funds.
