'Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana' has been launched for
Answer & explanation
Answer: (c) promoting financial inclusion in the country
PMJDY is the Government of India's National Mission on Financial Inclusion. When launched, it aimed to give every household at least one basic bank account, along with access to credit, insurance and pension. So its purpose is financial inclusion.
- ✗ (a) PMJDY is not a housing-finance scheme. It offers no cheap housing loans. Its aim is basic banking access for every household.
- ✗ (b) Promoting women's Self-Help Groups is the work of the National Rural Livelihood Mission, not PMJDY. PMJDY covers all households, not only women or backward areas.
- ✓ (c) The Finance Ministry describes PMJDY as a National Mission on Financial Inclusion meant to bring about comprehensive financial inclusion of all households in the country. It does this through universal access to bank accounts, financial literacy, credit, insurance and pension.
- ✗ (d) PMJDY is not a scheme of direct financial help or grants to marginalised groups. It opens bank accounts and gives access to financial services. This option is vague and misses the scheme's stated aim.
Remember · PMJDY (launched August 2014) = National Mission on Financial Inclusion: a bank account for every household, plus access to credit, insurance and pension.
