Protected areas & conservation Medium

Consider the following pairs:

  1. 1.Dampa Tiger Reserve: Mizoram
  2. 2.Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary: Sikkim
  3. 3.Saramati Peak: Nagaland

Which of the above pairs is/are correctly matched?

Answer & explanation

Answer: (c) 1 and 3 only

Dampa Tiger Reserve is in Mizoram. Saramati, the highest peak of Nagaland, lies on the Nagaland–Myanmar border. Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary is in Tripura, not Sikkim, so only pairs 1 and 3 are correct.

  • ✓ 1. Dampa is Mizoram's tiger reserve. The National Tiger Conservation Authority lists it as the only tiger reserve in Mizoram.
  • ✗ 2. Gumti WLS is a wildlife sanctuary of Tripura, managed by the Tripura Forest Department. It has nothing to do with Sikkim.
  • ✓ 3. Mount Saramati (about 3,826 m) lies in the Patkai Range along the Nagaland–Myanmar border. It is the highest point of Nagaland.

Remember · Gumti WLS is in Tripura. Dampa is Mizoram's only tiger reserve. Saramati (about 3,826 m) is Nagaland's highest peak, on the Myanmar border.
