The social order is the basis of all other rights, and it is itself founded on conventions — so conventions are the source of man’s rights. And if the social order is the basis of all rights, those rights can be exercised only where a social order exists.
- ✓ 1. Rights rest on the social order, and the social order “must therefore be founded on conventions”; so conventions are ultimately the source of man’s rights.
- ✓ 2. The social order is “the basis of all other rights”; without that basis the other rights cannot be exercised.
