Consider the following pairs:

Place of Pilgrimage: Location

  1. 1.Srisailam: Nallamala Hills
  2. 2.Omkareshwar: Satmala Hills
  3. 3.Pushkar: Mahadeo Hills

Which of the above pairs is/are correctly matched?

Answer & explanation

Answer: (a) 1 only

Only Srisailam is matched correctly: its temple stands in the Nallamala Hills of Andhra Pradesh. Omkareshwar is on a Narmada river island in Madhya Pradesh, far from the Satmala Hills on the southern edge of the Tapi basin. Pushkar lies in the Aravalli Range of Rajasthan, not the Mahadeo Hills.

  • ✓ 1. The Srisailam temple in Andhra Pradesh is set amid the Nallamala Hills, a range of the Eastern Ghats, above the Krishna river.
  • ✗ 2. Omkareshwar is on an Om-shaped island in the Narmada in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh. The Satmala Hills lie on the southern edge of the Tapi basin, alongside the Ajanta Range.
  • ✗ 3. Pushkar lies in the Aravalli Range, about 10 km northwest of Ajmer in Rajasthan. The Mahadeo Hills are in central India, forming part of the northern edge of the Deccan Plateau and bounding the Tapi basin on the east.

Remember · Srisailam is in the Nallamala Hills (Eastern Ghats), Pushkar is in the Aravallis, and Omkareshwar is on a Narmada island. The Satmala and Mahadeo hills both border the Tapi basin.
