Quit India Movement was launched in response to:

Answer & explanation

Answer: (b) Cripps Proposals

The Quit India Movement began in August 1942. It followed the failure of the Cripps Mission, whose proposals of March 1942 offered post-war dominion status and were rejected by Indian leaders. The Cabinet Mission, the Wavell Plan and the Simon Commission Report belong to other dates.

  • ✗ (a) The Cabinet Mission Plan came in 1946, about four years after Quit India (August 1942), so it cannot have caused it.
  • ✓ (b) The Cripps Mission came to India in March 1942 and offered post-war dominion status. Indian leaders rejected it. After this failure, Gandhiji launched the Quit India campaign in August 1942.
  • ✗ (c) The Simon Commission (1927–30) belongs to the late 1920s. It led to protests and was followed by the Civil Disobedience Movement, not Quit India.
  • ✗ (d) The Wavell Plan, which led to the Simla Conference, came in 1945. That is after the 1942 movement.

Remember · The Cripps Mission (March 1942) failed, and Quit India followed in August 1942. The Wavell Plan (1945) and the Cabinet Mission (1946) both came after Quit India.
