Answer & explanation

Answer: (b) A-5; B-2; C-3; D-1

CIHTS is at Sarnath, Varanasi (5). IGIDR is in Mumbai (2). NIMHANS is in Bengaluru/Bangalore (3). The English and Foreign Languages University (earlier CIEFL) is in Hyderabad (1). That gives A-5, B-2, C-3, D-1, which is option (b).

  • ✓ A The Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies is a deemed university at Sarnath in Varanasi. Dharamshala is a tempting guess because of the Tibetan link, but it is wrong.
  • ✓ B The Reserve Bank of India set up the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research in Mumbai in 1987.
  • ✓ C NIMHANS is on Hosur Road in Bengaluru (Bangalore), Karnataka.
  • ✓ D The Central Institute of English, founded in 1958, grew into the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages. It is located in Hyderabad.
  • • Since then The Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages is now The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, a Central University. Bangalore is now officially Bengaluru.

Remember · CIHTS – Sarnath (Varanasi); IGIDR – Mumbai (RBI-founded, 1987); NIMHANS – Bengaluru; CIEFL/EFLU – Hyderabad.
